I was making an appointment the other day and the person said ‘what about 5th December?’ ‘But that is nearly Christmas!’ Yes, only about eight weeks away’.

So with Christmas in mind, I wondered how much electricity is used on Christmas tree and other decorations. According to this 2015 Huffington Post article , US Christmas lights burn more energy than some nations in a year.

The article claims that Americans’ holiday decorations use 6.6 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, which is enough to run 14 million refrigerators.

So,there are sure to be people in our community who love the festivities of Christmas including the lights, but do not want to waste our resources, I looked for alternatives and the most common that I could find were solar garden lights and bottle Christmas trees. What sustainable ideas do you have for a festive Christmas?
