Who are we?

Geelong Sustainability is proud to lead the Community Power Hub in the Barwon South West region. Geelong Sustainability is a dynamic and passionate community group focused on sharing information, building community resilience, advocating for the environment and supporting effective action. Through The Community Hub we will connect and collaborate with organisations, energy groups and the broader community, working together to develop and deliver community energy projects.

Our goal is simple; to increase the access and involvement in community renewable energy throughout the Barwon South West region.

Geelong Sustainability will ensure a collaborative approach and equitable spread of support across the Barwon South-West region, spanning from Geelong to Portland.

The Community Power Hub will work with communities to develop local renewable energy solutions and support local community organisations and community groups to deliver implementation ready community energy projects.

Through the delivery of community-based renewable energy projects, the CPH will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase community support for Renewable Energy. It will also enable local economic benefits through cost savings for communities and support for local Renewable Energy jobs.

The Community Power Hub supports local community groups through:

  • conducting energy audits and energy use assessments

  • creating business model design

  • technical plans and advice

  • financial modelling and funding assistance

  • establishing governance structures (e.g. legal structures, agreements)

  • hosting community forums to engage with local communities at a grassroots level

  • empowering communities to transition to clean energy
